Sweater Weather

Now that the seasons are changing and the weather is getting cooler, it's time for layers! For those of you looking to shop for more clothes and want to try to be more environmentally conscious I suggest thrifting. Thrifting not only saves you money but it also helps recycle unused clothing. I personally love a nice worn-in, oversized flannel. All of my favorite flannels have been from various thrift stores from Boston, Brooklyn, and Baltimore. If you don't like the idea of going to a thrift store to buy clothes or if there isn't a thrift store near you there are also many secondhand stores that are online. Here are some of my favorite online thrift/vintage stores:

What makes thrifting so beneficial? When buying secondhand clothing, it is usually significantly cheaper than buying something brand new. You can even buy clothes with the original tags still on or clothes that have been "lightly used" meaning that they have only been worn once or twice. Another reason to shop secondhand is because of its low impact on the environment. Making new clothes requires many different materials that have varying impacts on the environment. Whether its clear cutting forests for growing cotton to different chemical dyes that are harmful to even humans, making new clothing requires a lot of energy and resources to only be worn for a few seasons. This is why it is important to donate clothing and to buy secondhand.
